National Junior Honor Society

National Junior Honor Society - 2024-2025

National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) was established by the NASSP (National Association of Secondary School Principals) in 1929 to recognize outstanding middle level students. More than just an honor roll, the National Junior Honor Society serves to encourage those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character and Citizenship.

The Ronald Reagan Middle School Chapter of NJHS gives eighth-grade students an opportunity to serve their school and the surrounding community. NJHS candidates must complete at least 20 hours of service during their 8th grade school year. At least 3 hours of their service time should be devoted to activities that will directly benefit RRMS. It is the student's responsibility to coordinate and keep track of their service hours and turn in the completed service hour form by the spring deadline (typically the last week of April).

8th grade candidates for the RRMS Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society are also required to maintain a cumulative average of 3.0 or higher, to receive a "Satisfactory" or "Outstanding" on their Effort and Conduct scores, to maintain a clean disciplinary record throughout their 8th grade school year, and to attend most scheduled meetings or events. If a student fails to maintain these expectations, he/she may no longer be eligible for induction into the Reagan MS NJHS chapter at the end of their 8th grade year.

NJHS Candidates must provide a $13.00 dues payment at the start of their 8th grade year. This fee is used to cover the national chapter dues, expenses for our chapter events and projects, and the end of year induction ceremony. This fee can be paid online through the Student QuickPay system or by submitting a check or cash in a sealed envelope labelled NJHS & the student’s full name.

NJHS candidates will be officially inducted into National Junior Honor Society in the spring of their 8th grade school year. This will allow the RRMS Faculty Council time to verify completion of each candidate’s service hour requirements and review academic and disciplinary records.

Service Hour Log

8th grade students who are new to RRMS may transfer their membership from their previous school by providing official documentation of their membership to Reagan's Chapter Advisor.

Ms. Vandervort is the advisor for NJHS and can be contacted at [email protected] . NJHS candidates are expected to enroll in the RRMS-NJHS Canvas page and check it regularly.  The NJHS Canvas site will be updated with information on chapter activities, service opportunities, meetings, and community events. Parents may enroll as an Observer on the course, but it is the candidate's responsibility to check their PWCS email & Canvas regularly to make sure they are receiving all communication regarding NJHS announcements and activities.
