Nags Head

To all my students and families,
I want you to know that I miss you all very much and hope you are staying safe and healthy. We never had a chance to say goodbye but I hope you'll all stop by to say hello when we come back to school in the fall.
The most important things you can do are to enjoy this time with your families; make lots of memories, and read! Whether its an audio book, graphic novel, or nonfiction text, books can take you to different worlds and experience events beyond your imagination.

If at any time, between now and the end of the school year, you or your student have any questions, please do not hesitate to send me an email. I check my emails frequently throughout the regular school day (8am- 3pm) And if you or your student are feeling overwhelmed by the task of teaching from home, please let me know so that I can do, on my end, what I can to reduce your burden. I will also host “open” virtual office hours via Zoom on Mondays from 12:00-12:45 pm. I'll be sending the link every Monday morning to the Zoom meeting. Your student is welcome to join me during office hours, even if it is just to say hello. If you or your student would like specific support with an assignment or activity on Mondays, I have 12:45-1:30 pm set aside to schedule additional Zoom meetings.

I look forward to hearing from you all soon!

Although PWCS is unable to provide instruction or class assignments to students while schools remain closed, our School Division hopes that the suggestions for optional learning activities posted here will help parents support student learning until schools re-open. Please remember that use of these materials and participation in these activities are optional and neither grades nor course credit will be awarded.

*The students in my fourth period English (Language Arts) class are utilizing the Six Minute Solution Intermediate program daily to support them in succeeding at improving reading fluency by “…using an instructional model that is based on repeated-reading research and partnering students with closely matched instructional and fluency levels. Research supports the fact that students’ reading skills improve when they work with peers in structure reading activities.” (Adams G., Brown S., 2007, The Six-Minute Solution: A Reading Fluency Program (Intermediate Level), Longmont: CO).

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!

I am looking forward to a year filled with learning, laughter, and adventure as we delve into great books, write thought provoking pieces, speak on topics which influence our lives, and learn how to be digital citizens in a social media driven world.
