Week of 11/14-Thanksgiving Break
Reading/Vocabulary: There will be a vocabulary packet coming home on Monday. Please review the words with your child, and study the vocabulary cards that come home on Tuesday. There will be a quiz on Friday. There is also an assortment of exercises to complete using the words. Our next unit in language arts is about fiction story elements. We will be covering plot until Thanksgiving break. We will also be starting book clubs on Friday the 18th. Please review the activity in the homework packet that deals with plot diagrams.
Math: Please have your child login and complete 15 minutes on Khan Academy one time this week. In addition, we are working on fractions in the classroom. The students have been doing a great job with this in the classroom! Please complete the fractions worksheets that are in your homework packet. There will be a quiz on identifying fractions on Wednesday 11/16. The students will move into mixed numbers next week, and have a quiz on fractions on Monday 11/21.
Science: In Science we are learning about the parts of an Atom and beginning to work with the periodic table. Please review the common element names with your student, and their chemical symbol. We will be reinforcing this in class this week. There will be a quick check on the periodic table on Thursday 11/17. We will also be making a book about metals. There will be a quick check on metals on 11/22. Please also complete the key atom vocabulary cut-paste activity.
Social Studies: This week we are continuing to talk about the 13 colonies. Review the timeline in the packet that has the 13 colonies labeled appropriately. Have the students color the colonies on the map activity sheet in the homework packet. We will have a quick check on Wednesday 11/16 to see if students can correctly identify North, Middle, and South colonies. We will be discussing Colonial America and characteristics of each this week. We will spend time learning about what life was like on plantations and what the first Thanksgiving looked like.
