Club Overview (2019-20)

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character and Citizenship. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since their beginnings in 1929.

The Ronald Reagan Middle School Chapter of The National Junior Honor Society will be devoted to service, both in and out of school. For current members to maintain membership requirements, student will need to complete a minimum of 20 hours of service by May 1, 2010. Students must dedicate at least 3 hours of his/her service to time that will directly benefit RRMS.  Please see the "Service Hour Guidelines" document link below for more details.  It is the student’s responsibility to coordinate and keep track of all service hours and turn in the completed service hour form by the meeting following the service date

Members of the RRMS Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society are required to maintain a cumulative average of 3.0 or higher, to receive a "Satisfactory" or "Outstanding" on their effort and conduct scores, and to maintain a clean disciplinary record.  If a student fails to maintain these expectations after an official warning, he/she may no longer be an active member at RRMS.

Current members of the Ronald Reagan Middle School Chapter of The National Junior Honor Society include current 8th grade students that were inducted PRIOR to the start of the 2019-2020 school year. 8th grade students who are new to RRMS may transfer their membership from their previous school by providing official documentation of their membership to Reagan's Chapter Adviser before the first meeting.

Information on becoming an NJHS Member

7th grade students who have attended RRMS since the start of 2nd quarter of 2019 and have a 7th grade cumulative non-rounded grade-point average of 3.0 or higher at the end of the third quarter will receive an invitation to apply for membership in this organization during the last week in April.

The candidate information forms for each applicant will be considered by the Faculty Council.  The council will select students according to the standards set by the national organization. Candidates selected as members are students who demonstrate excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Character, Citizenship, and Service.  NJHS is looking for those who are developing these models in all 5 categories. This means that a student not only has good grades, but is also moving towards being involved in school and community activities, actively serves the community, consistently shows responsibility in completing school work well, is eager to help without being prompted, consistently shows respect and kindness to their teachers and fellow students, and is a model of outstanding behavior in and out of the classroom.

8th grade students who would like to become members follow the same selection process; however, because Prince William County only has NJHS Chapters through 8th grade, an 8th grade applicant must submit a minimum of 10 hours of documented community service (that follows the chapter guidelines) with the application. Students may find the service guidelines, as well as the documentation logs, through the links above.

Candidates who are selected are required to pay dues and attend the formal induction ceremony in May in order to become members.
