About Me
Hi! My name is David Johnson and I am a teacher of students with Learning Disabilities here at Reagan. I teach small group math 8, co-teach math 8 with Mr. Kotwicki and Mrs. Fendall, co-teach science with Mrs. Heilen, and co-teach 7th grad social studies with Ms. Peterkin. This page has information about my first period small group math 8 classroom. If you have questions about the classes I co-teach, please visit the general education teacher's class page.

Class Description
The small group math 8 classroom has an SOL at the end of the year. We will be covering all of the standards as set forth by the Virginia Department of Education. My goal is for every one of my students to learn how to solve abstract problems, a skill they will continue to use every day of their lives!

All students must have one 2-inch three-ring binder with five dividers and plenty of lined paper. Students should label the five dividers as such: Notes, Classwork, Homework, Quizzes, Tests. All lined paper should be inside the notes tab. An expo marker is also highly recommended.

Classwork and Notes
All classwork and notes can be found in the "Files and Documents" section by Unit. If you would like to practice any of the classwork at home or review notes, please refer to this section.

Textbook and Homework
For this class, we will be using an online textbook through "Big Ideas Math". A video of me demonstrating how to access this text book is provided in the "Useful Links" section. All homework assignments will be given through this online textbook. Homework assignments will be recorded as assigned in a student's agenda. I will also post homework assignment information to the "Homework" tab of this class page.

QuickChecks will be given at least once per week and occasionally twice. These are ungraded assessments to track individual student progress and also help me figure out what areas require more instruction. The only graded assessments will be Unit Tests. The amount of grades these tests count for is determined by the number of SOL objectives contained within each unit. This is a grade-level math policy that has been adopted by all the 8th grade math teachers at the school.

Every graded unit test can be re-taken multiple times within a quarter until mastery is demonstrated. Grades will be posted within 48-hours of the last student finishing the unit test. From there, individual students may request re-takes.

Office Hours
I am available before school Monday-Friday at 7:30 and after school Monday, Wednesday, and Friday until 4:00. If you would like additional help, please send me an email and I will be happy to provide any additional support.
